Paper Beads for Crafts

This is a super fun craft I did with my daughter this afternoon. Paper beads can be made with all kinds of pretty papers. We used scraps of Chatterbox scrapbook paper. I haven't tried any thick papers but I would imagine that they wouldn't work out very well. Thin is better in this craft.

Things you need:
Thin paper
Glue (we used Martha Stewart glue with the brush)
Toothpick

*UTEE or other clear embossing powder, VersaMark pad & Heat Gun (optional)

So here's your how to:

Cut paper into strips. The width of the strip will be the width of the finished bead. The length will determine how think your bead is. A 12" scrapbook cutter is great for this. I would hate to cut strips by hand. Once you decide how big you want your bead to be all you do is roll the paper around the toothpick. Keep it tight. Once rolled take them off the toothpick and set them aside to dry.

*The next step is totally optional but as these are for my daughter to craft with I wanted to seal them so they won't tear as easy or unwind. :) This part is for adults. Rub the beads on the Versa pad. Dip them into the embossing powder and heat.
You can re-coat if you want to, I just did one coat of UTEE. Let cool and hand them over to your little crafter. She will love that she helped make beads and will most likely make a fun braclet out of them. :)
My daughter loves paper crafting of all kinds so this was super fun for her. Hope this is fun for you too!

Oh this brought back memories. When my daughter was small we spent hours making paper beads and jewelry with them. I love the new options of using the embossing powders on them. They didn't have that back in the stone age with my daughter. lol

Wow, that brings back memories!! I did this as a child.. however, I remember spending so much time making the beads, not actually making anything with the beads :)

Oh I used to make those out of (I think it was) magazine pages when I was a little girl! Except, we didn't have embossing stuff. We might have coated them with elmer's or something I guess. Anyway, those are pretty!
